Reporting to CEO of WWP (Wereldwijt Publishing)

Schiphol Magazine is the official magazine of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. A monthly themed publication with a print run of 50,000 copies; distributed at over 100 locations throughout Schiphol Airport - both landslide and airside allows maximum penetration to Schiphol's 4,500,000 monthly passengers.

My primary role as Publisher was to commercialise the publication and ensure profitability without damaging the integrity of Schiphol Magazine.

The way I tackled this was to break down the different sectors at Schiphol and to individually introduce Schiphol Magazine to the relevant person representing that brand/sector.

Here are some of my accomplishments during my time at Schiphol Magazine:
  • Sold over 200,000€ of advertising in 5 months
  • Handled Pixel Mags account to get Schiphol Magazine digital - Due to launch April 1st
  • Launches Schiphol's first non offers based shopping guide
  • Sold digital campaigns to 3 A brands for the Schiphol Magazine App
  • Exposure on major duty free & travel retail websites

Since January 2012 I have also been handling the day to day running of the company ensuring invoices are paid, staff are paid and was also instrumental in renegotiating the concession with Schiphol Airport which led to saving of over 100,000€ and a better, more efficient distribution system.

When I first started at Schiphol Magazine there was no shopping guide at all. Duty Free shopping at Schiphol is worth over 400,000,000€ per year - Huge. WIth an average per passenger spend of 15€.

All Schiphol had was an offers based brochure; however I understood that upmarket brands do not like to be introduced to new customers using a discount. This can seriously undermine the value of their product. So what I did was set to work on creating a non offers based shopping guide that would allow upscale brands to communicate with customers in a luxury shopping guide.

This was very successful and within 2 issues generated an extra 50,000€ of revenue allowing Schiphol Magazine to make profit.

We even have a bottle of 1927 Dalmore Whiskey worth over 250,000€
